On considering the moon and tide after reading THE TIDES: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean by Jonathan White

The tide is alive, it breathes in a single, endless wave, the moon a reciprocating force, its unseen hand rippling, spinning drowned stars.

The moon and tide respond, make life though never touching, they need each other to exist.

The pendulum swings, momentum keeps them

apart

          in sinusoidal

waves.

All the world relies on their romance, a dance where partners oscillate in veiled, transcendent cycles.

The moon’s ethereal desire ignites the ocean’s song, black depths hum her harmonic resonance.

All the world relies on their romance.
