THE PROCESS
For sculpture and dioramas, Preston assembles found objects and cast-offs to question notions of identity, consumption and private, inner lives. She invites others to explore a new way of seeing an object, which is usually in a satirical and slightly subversive light.
Her commercial and editorial photos exist in city collections and feature in magazines, websites and non-profit/for-profit company advertising. Preston's personal work appears on television, in galleries and installations.
Public art installations run the gamut from photography murals two-stories high to window displays. Public art allows her to connect with the community through collaboration and participation. She is passionate about being a conduit to conversation and interaction.

The Agate, Earth and Outer Space resin paintings are works made with layers of smooth resin mixed with paint and mineral powders, which capture and reflect light. The works are luminous, with deep layers to explore. In some of these paintings she encases her original poems.
Preston's physical presence and mood are captured in the gentle curves of her resin work. The body and mind's trajectory is traced, sometimes by a single finger, in the gestural approach to her abstract representations of the sea, earth and space.
The mixed-media paintings are made using built-up layers of plaster, which is scratched, painted and sometimes covered in melted wax (encaustic). These pieces are heavily textured with worn surfaces to incorporate the look of age and decay.
Unrestrained by convention, her visual and literary voices comingle in mixed media paintings, adding depth and tension to arresting landscapes. Each piece is a contemplation of the conflux between the eternal and impermanent. In some, she casts poems under resin, wax and plaster, using multiple tools to carve, burn, and blow. Viewers can dive into the layers, excavating with their eyes.
When she paints, she focuses on capturing a mood within a dynamic landscape. Her titles often lend additional meaning to the work.
